This October marks Black History Month, a national celebration which aims to promote and celebrate Black contributions to British society, and to develop a better understanding a Black history in general. The theme for this year is Proud To Be, inviting Black and Brown people of all ages throughout the UK to share what they are proud to be. Black History Month also brings many events from a range of different companies, charities and other providers. We’ve listed some of these below!

As part of Black History Month and beyond, this project will share the story of the life of John Archer the first black mayor of Battersea (elected 1913), and the first black mayor appointed in London. He was also a black rights civil campaigner and activist for labour rights and other social issues.
