Pep Talk: AR artist at Meta, Viv Galinari

Creative Lives in Progress back for our first Pep Talk of 2022, with AR artist at Meta, Viv Galinari, at 1 pm on Instagram Live! Tune in as Viv talks about the journey from business graduate to AR artist, making a career change and working in tech. After graduating in 2004, Viv starting out in the marketing and membership management team at D&AD. But it was while getting her BSc in Business and Innovation at Birkbeck University – and after years of believing that coding was a skill suited only for men – that Viv decided that it was time to learn the skill for herself.
So with little resources and unable to do a costly bootcamp, she taught herself code. It paid off when Viv landed a role as has a software developer, creating custom web apps for the BBC, while continuing to experiment in the world of social AR.
A great believer in the potential of self-teaching, Viv will be ready to answer all your questions later this month, so set a reminder for 1pm on January 19th, and join us as she talks about working in AR and making a career change.

It’s Nice That Presents: Nicer Tuesdays Creative Event

Kicking off 2022 with a bang, It’s Nice That is bringing back its elusive and exciting creative events with January’s Nicer Tuesdays taking place online. Wherever you are in the world, tune into the first creative talk of the year from 6 pm GMT where you’ll hear from renowned graphic designer Alex Hunting as well as London-based illustrator Naomi Anderson-Subryan.
Gaining insight into two very different but equally brilliant creative practices, we’ll first hear from Naomi who will deliver a ten-minute talk on her crafty illustration practice. She’ll tell us about her inspirations and processes, sharing insights from her humorous works which span joyful ceramic characters, collages and editorial illustrations. Next, we’ll hear from Alex Hunting, the founding designer of Alex Hunting Studio, who will discuss the ins and outs of Kinfolk’s redesign as well as a new offshoot for children, Kindling, in a 25-minute Q&A with our editor-in-chief Matt Alagiah.
